ABSTRACT

With advancements in education, health, technology, and communication, society has seen significant lifestyle changes, with people spending more time working than on personal well-being. As reported by the World Health Organization, millennials in India work longer hours than their counterparts in other countries, leading to rising mental health issues, increased stress, and reduced productivity.

To address this growing concern, we have developed "Snap & Snooze", a service designed to offer a 30-minute space for relaxation within busy schedules. This brief yet impactful session promotes mental and physical rejuvenation, emphasizing the importance of restorative naps and sensory relaxation. Through a carefully designed environment, Snap & Snooze aims to enhance well-being, energize the mind, and improve productivity.

Defining the User persona

Aanya

Location - Design Campus
Occupation - Design Student
Working Hours - 10-12 hrs
Age - 25

Personality Traits: Curious, creative, ambitious, occasionally anxious

Aanya spends long hours juggling studio work, submissions, and late-night brainstorming sessions. The demanding academic environment and irregular sleep patterns have led to mental fatigue and decreased focus.

Needs & Goals:

  • Quick, effective ways to restore mental clarity between classes

  • A calm environment to reduce sensory overload from constant screen exposure

  • A method to sustain creativity and attention without caffeine dependence

Pain Points:

  • Constant fatigue and eye strain

  • Difficulty focusing after long working sessions

  • Overstimulation from visual and auditory clutter

How the Experience Helps:

The guided snooze offers Aanya a short, structured period of multisensory decompression, allowing her to relax, refresh, and rejuvenate—improving her focus and creative output post-session.

Dr. Tara

  • A calm environment to reduce stress and cognitive fatigue

  • A method to sustain alertness and composure without relying on stimulants

Pain Points:

  • Persistent tiredness and reduced concentration

Service Form

The service was prototyped at the National Institute of Design over five days. The primary users were students experiencing stress from academic workload, followed by faculty, administrative, and housekeeping staff. To implement the service, our team communicated directly with users and promoted Snap & Snooze within the campus, adhering to Covid-19 bio-bubble restrictions. We developed the brand identity and created posters, standees, and billboards to introduce the service.

Interactive posters and standees were designed to engage users by triggering the contagious effect of yawning. These touchpoints were strategically placed in quiet, reflective areas across campus spaces where individuals are often alone with their thoughts, performing routine activities.

Service Prototyping

Prototyping Phase 1

In the first phase, a basic nap pod was set up in the studio using minimal resources - study table, cushions, mounting board for privacy, speaker for white noise, and a lamp for ambience & tested with six users for feedback before the final prototype.

Future Scope

Not only workplace but all the schools and colleges can incorporate this type of sleeping pods inside the campus. Every campus of NID can incorporate this model to spread more positive napping culture. Many countries and companies are incorporating this model. This service not only will bring positivity but people taking nap in afternoon won't be considered as lethargic , lazy , unprofessional rather they will be respected because they have worked so hard that they had to go and take a nap. Tie up between service provider and company/college/schools/station/ malls/restaurants/massage parlor. All the employees will have free access to the service and company will pay to the SNAP & SNOOZE. It can also hire masseur for addition of the service. In this service if employee is tired he/she/they will get massage and then they can go to have power nap in their pod. The company will provide customers 3 tickets in a month. For rest of the times they will have to pay for the massage service otherwise they can use the pods anytime after lunch. SNAP & SNOOZE will write the instruction about who should avail the service or not. There can be a room with private soundproof pods , appropriate temperature, one SNAP & SNOOZ employee for any manual support, doubt or emergency , desired aroma, blanket, eye mask, chocolate/caffeine before/after the service, something to fidget etc. There will be an emergency button in case if user feels suffocated / claustrophobic etc.
